Sumit answers some of your questions about Ananta, the concepts behind the exhibition and his influences.

Hindu Mythology is a major inspiration in your work. Why is this?

When I was a child the dramatic and exciting stories of the Hindu Gods enthralled me; they are tales of Gods and Demons, of Love and Death, of infinite Time and Space, of meditation and wrath.

Alongside this, the comic books I read when I was growing up have a visual language which conveys the drama of the stories. These really excited me and later inspired me as an artist.

I was inspired to ‘re design’ the Gods and re imagine their stories in a modern / futuristic / universal setting.

I started looking at Hindu motifs in the early nineties in my allegorical KrikSix work and found many similarities between its use of symbol and metaphor and those in my own work.
